On Saturday, July 11, 2026, the participants experienced a very special training day in bright sunshine and summer heat on the former dirt track in Friedelsheim. This extraordinary location offered not only an inspiring setting, but also ideal conditions for learning and applying new techniques in a natural environment. From the very beginning, you could feel the positive energy and team spirit that developed among everyone present. Under the experienced guidance of Sensei Thorsten, the initial focus was on defending effectively against attacks on your own katana. In the process, the participants learned not only precise and powerful defensive techniques, but also the proper posture and body control that are essential for successful defense. Step by step, your understanding of timing and distance was sharpened—skills that make all the difference in combat.
After the intensive work with the katana, the training continued with dynamic kicks and varied attack combinations. Here, the emphasis was on speed, coordination, and mobility. The partner drills created a lively atmosphere that made one thing clear: training together is not only more fun, it also greatly supports individual progress. A particular highlight was the subsequent instruction with the bo, the traditional long staff. In the difficult, steep terrain of the former dirt track, this unit proved to be a real challenge. But it was exactly these demanding conditions that made the training so valuable. The participants were able to improve their fundamental techniques in an environment that tested strength, balance, and concentration in equal measure. Sensei Thorsten patiently and with great expertise showed how to act precisely and with control even under more difficult circumstances.
To conclude the training day, everyone had the opportunity to apply and further refine the skills they had learned during sparring in a safe setting. This free practice not only served to test techniques in a realistic way, but also strengthened each person’s self-confidence. The first outdoor training session with Sensei Thorsten was therefore a complete success—a mix of intensive learning, athletic challenge, and shared motivation. It impressively showed how enriching and exciting martial arts can be when practiced in a community full of commitment and enthusiasm.
We are already looking forward to more training days in the open air and to taking the next steps toward greater skill, discipline, and inner strength together with Sensei Thorsten and all participants. Anyone who has been there knows: the next training session will be at least just as thrilling and motivating!
