Tatsu-Ryu-Bushido – The Japanese martial art of the samurai
TATSU-RYU-BUSHIDO.com
What is Tatsu-Ryu-Bushido?
Based on the martial art of the famous Japanese swordsman Miyamoto Musashi and his teaching of the five elements, the style is based on the use of traditional weapons, unarmed exercises, history and culture.
A martial art that strengthens individual self-confidence, promotes health and trains character according to the life philosophy and tradition of the samurai. Self-confidence and self-assertion, also preventative, combine tradition and modernity in this martial art. Non-competitive, it offers personal development of body and mind, regardless of gender, age and physical condition.
The characteristics of this art are its high quality, suitability for everyday use and the pursuit of perfection, which are continuously developed and characterise the concept in many ways. Numerous social activities, also in nature, round it off.
To summarise, “the way of the samurai according to the style of the dragon” in Japanese is Tatsu-Ryu-Bushido.
- Tatsu = dragon
- Ryu = style/school
- Bushido = the way of the warrior (samurai)
Where does Tatsu-Ryu-Bushido come from?
Tatsu-Ryu-Bushido” is based in particular on the traditions of the sword fighting art “Niten-Ichi-Ryu” (“Two-Heaven School”) of the probably most famous swordsman “Miyamoto Musashi” (1584 – 1645) and his teaching of the five elements of “Gorin-No-Sho” (earth, water, fire, wind and emptiness), as well as aspects of the “Koryu-Bujutsu” (traditional martial arts) of the samurai of the 16th to 19th centuries. Tatsu-Ryu-Bushido thus belongs to the Shin-Kobudo (new art of war) group. The link between the style name “Tatsu-Ryu” and the term “Bushido” (way of the warrior) is intended to emphasise the transfer of the traditional values of the samurai to the present day. The Japanese martial art “Tatsu-Ryu-Bushido” was founded in 1987 as a martial arts club and in 1991 as an independent martial arts programme in the first Tatsu-Ryu-Bushido club by Christian Wiederanders in order to preserve the old traditional values of Miyamoto Musashi while incorporating new aspects.
