The Japanese samurai sword – fascination and practice. The katana, the traditional Japanese sword of the samurai, continues to hold great fascination for martial arts enthusiasts to this day. Its elegant form and deep cultural significance make it a special training tool in various martial arts. On Sunday 14 June 2026, a special sword training course will take place in Limburgerhof under the guidance of Sakio Shihan Christian Wiederanders. From 11 am to 2 pm, participants will learn how to move with the sword and the differences in training and perception – whether wearing samurai armour or handling various types of weapons such as shinai, bokken (wooden sword), and unsharpened and sharpened katana. The course is open to participants aged 16 and over, although the handling of metal weapons on this day is restricted to those aged 18 and over. The number of participants is limited to 15 to ensure individual attention. Anyone interested in immersing themselves in the world of samurai swords and acquiring in-depth knowledge of technique and posture should register early. This unique training offers the opportunity to learn more about the Japanese art of swordsmanship and its practical application.
NOTE: The next course, which is unarmed, will take place on Sunday, 28 June 2026, with Sensei Thorsten Klein
