On 4 April 2026, Ragama, Sri Lanka, became the venue for an impressive display of fighting spirit and technical precision. The Sri Lanka Muay Thai Kickboxing Federation hosted the “Road to Combat – 07” event, offering spectators a top-class programme of Muay Thai and MMA. A total of eight bouts featured on the evening’s fight card. Whilst seven matches were contested in classic Muay Thai, a thrilling MMA bout provided additional variety and dynamism in the ring. Expertise and experience in the ring: A distinctive feature of this event was the line-up of officials.
The referees were Shenal Fernando, Kaushalya Nirmana and Dilnika Ashna Soysa. The trio brought a unique sense of immediacy and sharpness to the ring: all three had themselves recently competed as active fighters at the Muay Thai World Championships in Thailand. This first-hand experience at world-class level ensured the fights were officiated with expertise and fairness, which clearly commanded the athletes’ respect. Honours from the Grand Masters: The intense bouts were followed by the ceremonial highlight. The award ceremonies were conducted by two high-ranking representatives from the world of martial arts.
Grandmasters Renil Fernando (Sri Lanka Muay Thai Kickboxing Federation) and Christian Wiederanders (Tatsu-Ryu-Bushido) personally presented the medals to the competitors. This gesture underscores the deep bond and mutual respect practised within Bushido, transcending styles and national borders. It was an evening that celebrated not only the physical strength of the fighters, but also the values of discipline and camaraderie that unite our community worldwide. We congratulate all participants on their performance and thank the Sri Lanka Muay Thai Kickboxing Federation for the excellent organisation! Thanks also to Martin Paetz for his support in the run-up to and follow-up of the event!
