On Sunday, 16 November 2025, instructors and assistants in Tatsu-Ryu-Bushido attended a basic training course on the topic of ‘Principles of Tatsu-Ryu-Bushido and application of the five elements (Gorin-no-sho)’. Not only our assistants in training, but also experienced dan holders regularly took part and worked out training concepts for different performance levels in mixed groups, including self-reflection before and after the course in order to track their own learning process. The Train the Trainer course was led by Saiko-Shihan Christian Wiederanders, who not only brought old values to the table, but also modern, step-by-step learning principles based on the five elements. The five elements in Tatsu-Ryu Bushido – earth, water, fire, wind and emptiness – are not abstract concepts from Far Eastern literature. Behind the elements lies a detailed training concept that ensures sound martial arts training of a high quality. The focus here was not on techniques, but on how to teach techniques correctly and which techniques are appropriate at which performance levels. In Tatsu-Ryu Bushido, great importance is attached to quality and continuous further training of instructors. Martial arts experience is not enough; it is essential to obtain additional qualifications. The next trainer training course will take place from 4 to 7 December 2025 in Sri Lanka in order to maintain international standards.
