Thinking outside the box: The youth of HSG Dudenhofen/Schifferstadt recently proved how perfectly Japanese martial arts and modern handball complement each other during an exclusive guest training session with Tatsu-Ryu-Bushido. At the invitation of the handball club, the Tatsu-Ryu-Bushido instructor team opened the doors to a completely new world of movement. Senpai Martin, actively supported by his two assistants Julia and Angela, took charge of the 16 highly motivated teenagers from HSG. The goal of the day: to experience coordination, breakfalling, and body control from a brand-new perspective. After an intensive and sweat-inducing warm-up program, everyone teamed up to lay out the mats. With the traditional ceremonial bow, the handball players truly immersed themselves into the world of the Samurai.

Suburi with the Bokken: The youth learned basic swinging and cutting techniques with the Japanese wooden sword (Bokken) – first stationary, and then in motion.

The Art of Falling (Ukemi): An invaluable advantage for handball players! Correct rolling techniques and how to fall safely without injury were practiced intensively on the mats.

Throwing Techniques: Following a brief demonstration by the instructor team, it was time for the teenagers to try it themselves. They practiced their first basic throwing drills through partner exercises.

Finale with the Tanbo: To wrap things up, the action turned dynamic once again. Using the short staff (Tanbo), they trained in single-handed weapon combat along with the matching footwork.

Conclusion: The 16 teenagers of HSG Dudenhofen/Schifferstadt showed great dedication, interest, and plenty of talent. It was a highly successful athletic exchange that demonstrates just how much different sports can learn from one another.
