Tradition is very important in Tatsu-Ryu-Bushido. But sometimes it is the unconventional approaches that make the difference in training. One example is the beach ball, familiar from the beach and swimming pool. Here, it appears in martial arts training for children. Younger and more reserved children in particular sometimes have inhibitions about falling exercises. One technique is rolling to the side. Many children find it difficult to imagine how to roll without injuring themselves or losing control. This is where the water ball comes in. By using it during the exercise, the children find support that gives them security. While practising, the young seito (students) put their ear to the water ball and clasp it like a precious treasure that they must not lose. This simple aid helps them to keep their body rounded and maintain control over the movement. The fear of injury disappears and the children gain confidence in their abilities. With each attempt they make, they gradually lose the inhibitions that previously held them back. Once the children feel more confident and have internalised the technique, they can finally learn to roll without any aids. Without this creative method, the process would be lengthy and fraught with setbacks. Overall, the use of the water ball in training demonstrates that innovative aids not only facilitate the learning process, but also add a playful component that promotes enjoyment in learning.
