On 3 June 2025, Tatsu-Ryu-Bushido Mutterstadt e.V. held its annual belt test, where numerous new members were able to demonstrate their skills by taking the entrance exam. Assistant trainer Julia Arz also took her 6th kyu (green) exam at this event, which she successfully passed. The examination focussed on the practical elements of the earth (chi) aspect, which are essential for advanced martial arts. The participants had to demonstrate various basic stances and falling exercises, which serve as fundamental techniques for self-defence. In addition, both defence and attack techniques were tested in order to test the versatility and dexterity of the candidates. Special attention was paid to the weapon techniques, where Julia Arz gave a good performance with two course sticks and the wooden sword in motion. This not only demonstrated her skills, but also her deep understanding of the principles of Tatsu-Ryu-Bushido. Another highlight of the examination was the performance of three kata forms of Miyamoto Musashi’s sword style. These demanding sequences of movements required maximum concentration and precision and were mastered by Julia with flying colours. After the presentation of the new belt and the certificate by Saiko Shihan (chief instructor) Christian Wiederanders, a detailed discussion of the examination performance took place. The next steps and curricula for the coming weeks were also discussed in order to further deepen the knowledge learnt and expand the skills.
