The Tatsu-Ryu-Bushido team, represented by Saiko-Shihan Christian Wiederanders and health trainer Sabina Nezirivic, took the opportunity to visit the non-profit association Aikido Ouka-Jyuku Darmstadt e.V. in Hesse and exchange ideas with sports expert Anis-Mustapha El Gadi. Anis has been training in martial arts since he was six years old. He started with Shotokan karate and then moved on to Wushu Sanda (Chinese kickboxing) before discovering Aikido. Anis holds a black belt in Wushu Sanda (1st Dan) and Aikido (3rd Dan Aikikai Tokyo). Anis is a trained sports expert. The club is a member of the international umbrella organisation Aikido Shimbokukai, which is affiliated with the Aikikai Hombu Dojo in Japan. The visit was characterised by respectful interaction and a shared interest in the depth and diversity of Japanese martial arts. The conversation with trainer Anis focused on methodological approaches, pedagogical considerations in teaching, and differences and similarities in technique, principles and philosophy. The open and collegial dialogue was particularly enriching, not only providing professional inspiration, but also showing how much we can learn from each other – regardless of style or association. Encounters like this not only promote mutual understanding, but also strengthen the martial arts community as a whole. The dojo, which has been built with love, offers many opportunities for expanding the range of courses on offer. In the near future, for example, a ‘Don’t take it lying down – protect yourself from violence’ course could be held there in cooperation with Tatsu-Ryu-Bushido in order to revive the children’s groups. Tatsu-Ryu-Bushido, as a martial art Miyamoto Musashi, has also been met with enthusiasm, and we hope to be able to offer courses there as well. We look forward to continuing this exchange, whether through joint training sessions, courses or further discussions.
