A delegation from Tatsu-Ryu-Bushido travelled to Bochum for the 18th Ajukate Charity Seminar on Saturday, 7 February 2026. The good cause in question was to support the Herne-Wanne Animal Welfare Association. Our own Saiko-Shihan and founder, 7th Dan Tatsu-Ryu-Bushido, Christian Wiederanders, was on the mat as a speaker. Also present were Julian Katzenberger, 2nd Dan Jiu-Jitsu from TVG Steele 1863 e. V., and Tom Thiel, 2nd Dan from the Ajukate Judoka Wattenscheid club. Training was conducted in two groups, divided according to belt level. Christian brought bokken and shōtō with him and taught some techniques from Japanese sword fighting. The use of the short sword was particularly exciting. Julian demonstrated a combination of blocking, countering and transitioning into joint lock techniques. Tom’s session incorporated approaches from jiu-jitsu, judo and aikido in application against typical attacks from the self-defence field. Despite a few absences due to illness, we were able to collect €750 in donations for the Herne-Wanne animal shelter and put it to good use! At the end of the training session, each instructor offered a few bonus techniques for the entire group to finish off together. The day ended for some of the participants at the El-Dorado steakhouse – we had a lot of fun and learned a lot.
