Following the devastating tsunami of 2004, Sri Lanka has once again been hit by a catastrophic natural disaster. Heavy rainfall led to flooding and landslides, which had tragic consequences for the population in many regions of the country. The east coast and the central island region, where tourist destinations such as Badulla, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya are located, were particularly hard hit. These areas suffered not only from the floodwaters, but also from the destruction of infrastructure such as bridges and railway tracks, which further exacerbated the situation. In the midst of this tragedy, many countries immediately stepped in to provide assistance. Particularly noteworthy is the joint action taken by Pakistan and India, which quickly provided bridges and other urgently needed relief supplies. This international solidarity is a ray of hope in times of need. Christian Wiederanders, TATSU-RYU-BUSHIDO had the opportunity to see the extent of the disaster for himself last week. His impressions reflect the need for immediate assistance – both in the form of material goods and organisational support. In Colombo, the capital, the Sri Lanka Muay Thai Kick Boxing Federation is mobilising its members and actively offering help. Under the leadership of Shenal Fernando and Kaushalya Nirmana, over 500 food parcels were packed on Saturday evening, 6 December, to support those in need. As a community, we also want to do our part. Each of us can make a difference, no matter how small the donation may be. We would therefore like to point out the official donation address so that we can work together to support the people of Sri Lanka during this difficult time. Let’s help together and give hope!
